It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

As you may have heard, the new version 3.1 of mocha supports RED (R3D) files. We also updated MochaImport+ accordingly to support this file type.

Digital camera development has been running in high gear for several years, outpacing any other portion of our industry. Thanks to a revolution started by RED, Nikon and Canon, videographers are now blessed with a wide range of small, affordable, high-performance imaging systems that have liberated us from the restrictions of the mundane 2/3" video camera.

The latest 10.0.6 update to FCPX brought sophisticated support for media shot on the RED cameras. This new white paper details different workflows with FCPX and also suggests one very handy tip for changing the resolution of your projects once editing has been finished.

If you just got in on a RED camera for a tremendous price, and you aren’t familiar to the RED workflow, it can be a little confusing at first, especially since RAW files offer a tremendous amount of flexbility. If you’ve got Adobe Premiere Pro CS6, RED has put together a little video showing exactly what you need to do to get started working with RED RAW files and manipulating them within the program.

If you're still wondering how to make use of that Thunderbolt port on your computer, here's a new option. mLogic, a fairly new company that shares the same founder as G-Technology (now under HGST), is now taking orders for the USD399 mLink Thunderbolt expansion chassis and will start shipping it this month.

The 10.0.6 update to FCPX was huge. One of the new features was the ability to ingest and handle RAW files from the RED range of cameras. Our normal duo get very excited showing how easy this has become in Final Cut Pro X.

Ok, this was really last week's episode that's out a little late. But IMHO it's worth the wait - in it, Steve Martin from Ripple Training shows me how easy it is to work natively with RED R3D files in the Final Cut Pro X 10.0.6 update.
