To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

FCPX: Use Compressor presets...

Over at the fcp.co forum, a user named 'parchabg' was trying to get better results when exporting interlaced PAL from Final Cut Pro X. I suggested using Apple Compressor’s 'DV Stream' setting. It allows control over interlace field order.

FCP X 10.0.6: Sharing Made Simpler

Prior to Final Cut Pro X 10.0.6, the Share menu existed on its own and let you convert your project into one or many kinds of outputs, one at a time. You had to send an entire project (a huge issue for many editors) and you had to wait for the export to complete before you could continue. All that just changed with 10.0.6.

Apple Updates Final Cut Pro X

This morning, Apple updated Final Cut Pro X, Motion, and Compressor, with a variety of bug fixes. Probably the bug fix that would be most valuable to many people – based on the number of emails I received on this – is fixing a problem when trying to burn a single-layer DVD.

Hi Everyone, I know, you've all probably been thinking, I remember when that guy from AOTG suggested an Open Course for film editors, yeah, that would have been fun. Well, guess what, we're close to launching a kickstarter and a website! So what’s been taking us so long? Well, convincing people (Producers/Studios) to...

Why you should upgrade to FCPX v10.0.6

November 13, 2012, 10:08 PM

http://www.definitionmagazine.com/journal/2012/11/...

One of the many things that has amazed me about FCPX is the speed at which it has evolved. When first launched most were rightly skeptical about its ability to replace FCP 7 in their workflow and rightly so. The new application was incredibly powerful in a lot of really good ways but, as with all things creative, it was only as good as its worst feature or its greatest deficiency and some of FCPX 1.0's worst bits were surprisingly mighty bad indeed.

FINAL CUT PRO X 10.0.6

Thanks Apple. This is the BIG one that I've been patiently waiting for. Apple have released the next version of Final Cut (10.0.6) and I couldn't be more excited about this update. Seriously, this is huge. I've been an editor for almost 20 years now and I'm more excited about the 10.0.6 release than any piece of software I can remember.
