An axiom of Hollywood post-production holds that the best editing maintains a seamless invisibility; that the best editors don't draw attention to their work. Thelma Schoonmaker simultaneously embodies and shatters that axiom. On one hand, she is certainly one of Hollywood's most self-effacing editors, perhaps understandably so working as Martin Scorsese's editor. Editing all his films from Raging Bull on, she always claims the credit goes to Scorsese since he shoots for and edits with her.
