Developer Network You never forget the first time you cut a live broadcast. The stress is unparalleled! Sure there are stressful moments when cutting a movie or show but when you’re cutting live your mistakes are on display for all to see. I only cut live broadcasts for a short period, before jumping to a less stressful work environment. The systems when I cut live were Tricasters and not much has changed, still used widely they are more robust and powerful then ever. When I was at NABSHOW 2013 I got a chance to discuss the new advances they’ve made in the last year. Part of their announcements involved the “expansion of the NewTek Developer Network, a growing ecosystem of companies that create compelling workflows for NewTek customers”. This involves companies like Avid, Chyron and AJA. What seems to be approaching faster and faster these days is the live streaming to the internet. Companies such as UStream and Livestream have been jostling for the position of Youtube for live events. NewTek is well aware of this and have been making sure that their systems are adaptable for these live events on the internet, CEO Brad Hunstable stated “NewTek’s TriCaster has been very popular with Ustream broadcasters with it’s multi-camera switching, 1080p, video playback, and green screen with chroma key -- basically everything you would want to do on video production at a really affordable price point.” So who are the people involved in the Developer Network? Streaming Haivision – HyperStream Live - Multi-bit streaming as a service in the cloud for TriCaster. Ustream – Stream directly from the TriCaster to Ustream with one-click. Graphics Compix – Linx – Software-based character generator for the TriCaster with optional channel branding and social media integration Graphics Outfitters – IVGA Connect – Connect any external HD-SDI source over the Ethernet to TriCaster. Content Freeplay Music – Desktop access to free and affordable music for TriCaster. Controllers AJA – KUMO SDI routers - connects up to 32 sources with TriCaster 8000 Utah Scientific – UTAH-100/UDS - modular router system provides additional sources for the TriCaster 8000. 3Play/4800
The other big news for NewTek was the 3Play/4800 for live sports which involves the following toolset: Unique Toolset of 3Play 4800 Unlike any other replay server on the market, 3Play 4800 offers more real-time capabilities in a single turnkey system, placing an unprecedented toolset at the fingertips of every replay operator. Top features of the system include: 1. Redundant Capture—Redundant capture of up to 4 live video sources doubles up ISO recordings and protects all media assets. Users can also choose to simultaneously record all 8 inputs as separate camera feeds to add more angles as needed. 2. High-end Visuals—Live animated, 3D-warped visual transition effects for switching and in-program editing, with custom animation creator and import of your own branded graphic elements. 3. Live Replay Switching—Monitor all angles during replay, and transition between them video-switcher style—providing a completely finished replay segment within moments, animated transitions and all, to output to switcher, feed the video board, or upload to the Web. 4. High Quality Slow Motion—Get clear, crisp slow motion playback with both standard HD or SD cameras, achieved with a super-resolution algorithm for sharper slow motion and dramatic stills alike. 5. Social Media Publishing—Easily distribute content to multiple social media sites in one pass—even during live production, for a unified, immediate brand presence.
