Where to now? ...ProMax What happens when the Apple Computer you have been using for several years begins to die. The power supply gives out or the motherboard stops working. Most people would say, just grab another mac off the shelf. Yes, true, you could just buy another one off the shelf, but there is a need to keep your systems current, fast and ready for the next high demand project you get. Apple hasn’t released a new tower in years. There is talk they will be announcing one soon but, it is currently being referred to as the MacPro Replacement. Who knows for sure what Apple’s plans are, can you bet your companies infrastructure on it? This is where ProMax Systems comes in, they’ve got solutions that will help you make sure your hardware is the fastest, most robust, and dependable for the demand of your projects. I met with the ProMax Team at NABShow 2013 and we discussed the ProMax One, ProMax One+, and the Platform Studio.
ProMax One | ProMax One+ Before FCPX came out I would have been hesitant to jump to a ProMax system because it runs windows, but since FCPX arrived, I can jump anywhere as both Avid and Adobe are on PC and Mac. The towers contain 12/16 cores, 4 boot drives, up to 32TB raid all in one turn key solution. The system also has LTO-5 and 6 to help you with the need to archive your projects. Finally, the built in card readers and a DVD or Blu Ray player really make this a useful part of the editing room.
Platform Studio Do you need more? Well, how about the Platform Studio? It picks up where the ProMax One and One+ leave off. The Platform studio has a Modular structure that allows for the user to choose Share, DAM and Archive depending on their needs. Shared allows the Platform Studio to become a shared storage for up to for direct users on Mac and PC. This system can expand to 64TB. You read the right, 64TB. It also has Raid5 Protection. The archive module allows for easy set up as a server and use of LTO4-6. It also allows user restore from anywhere on the network and is great for larger projects with multiple editors. Of course, this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to ProMax, go to their site and check out their product line.
